Lexus UX Crankshaft Camshaft Reference Value Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Lexus UX is experiencing issues such as a check engine light, reduced engine power, poor response, and increased fuel consumption. Diagnostics indicate a crankshaft to camshaft reference value issue, potentially caused by a defective crankshaft sensor. Suggestions include checking the crank sensor and considering timing chain or camshaft position sensor issues. Ultimately, replacing the crank sensor resolved the problem, restoring the engine's performance.

Thanks for the reply. I was leaning towards the crank sensor myself, but you mention the timing chain. Wouldn't a timing chain issue present with more persistent symptoms rather than these intermittent hiccups?

While a timing chain issue might present with more consistent symptoms over extended operation, transient deviations in the crankshaft to camshaft reference value could still manifest as intermittent anomalies. However, given the diagnostic indication of a potential crankshaft sensor defect, proceeding with its evaluation is a logical step. I advise seeking qualified professional assistance to confirm the diagnosis and proceed with the necessary rectification measures. It would be advantageous to have this issue addressed promptly to avert potential consequential damage.

Appreciate the detailed response. Took it to the workshop; you were spot on. It was the crank sensor. New sensor installed, and the engine is running perfectly again. Total cost was 340€. Thanks!

Greetings. The symptoms you describe are indeed indicative of a potential malfunction within the engine's synchronization system. Have you considered the possibility of a timing chain issue, or perhaps an anomaly with the camshaft position sensor? A comprehensive diagnostic assessment would be prudent to ascertain the precise nature of the fault.
