Lexus UX Exhaust Temperature Sensor Issue

Alright Lexus UX gurus, I'm pulling my hair out here. My 2020 Lexus UX with the gasoline engine is throwing a check engine light, and it feels like it's lost a good chunk of its pep. Plus, the fuel gauge is plummeting faster than usual. I've scanned the codes and it points to a faulty exhaust temperature sensor. Anyone else seen this gremlin before?

Summary of the thread

A 2020 Lexus UX with a gasoline engine is experiencing a check engine light, reduced performance, and increased fuel consumption, attributed to a faulty exhaust temperature sensor. The issue may be caused by a small leak or crack in the exhaust system near the sensor, affecting temperature readings. A thorough inspection revealed a crack in the exhaust manifold, which was resolved by replacing the sensor and welding the crack, restoring the vehicle's performance.

I had similar symptoms in my UX - though not the same year. Check the exhaust system, especially around the sensor. Could be a small leak causing temperature fluctuations and throwing off the readings. Did you notice any odd smells?

Interesting! I did give the exhaust a quick once-over but didn't spot anything obvious. I haven't noticed any unusual exhaust odors, but I'll give it a more thorough inspection tomorrow. Where exactly should I be focusing my search for this leak?

Honestly, without getting it up on a lift, it's tough to pinpoint. I'd say look closely at any joints or welds in the exhaust piping near the sensor. But if you can't find it quickly, might be worth a trip to a trusted workshop before it messes with your catalytic converter. Mine ended up being a hairline crack.

Appreciate the insight! I'll check more thoroughly, but you're right, probably best to get it to the shop before I do more damage. Turns out it was a small crack in the exhaust manifold near the sensor, just like you said! New sensor and a weld fixed it, cost me 265€. Thanks again!
