Lexus UX Overheating Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2021 Lexus UX with a gasoline engine is experiencing overheating and a check engine light, despite normal coolant levels. The issue is unlikely related to a defective speed sensor, which typically affects shifting or transmission codes. The problem is more likely due to a malfunctioning radiator fan, which can cause overheating if the fan motor is faulty or the blades are stuck. The suggested solution is to inspect the fan for movement and seek professional diagnosis, which ultimately confirmed the radiator fan as the issue.

Thanks for the quick reply! I'm not really sure what the fan should sound like, but I haven't noticed any crazy loud noises. Where exactly is the fan motor located, and how can I tell if the blade is stuck? Is it easy to get to?

Okay, so the fan motor is part of the car radiator assembly, right behind the grille. You should be able to see the fan blades through the grille. Be careful! With the engine off and cool, try to spin the fan blades by hand. They should move freely. If they're stiff or stuck, that's a problem. But honestly, with overheating and a check engine light, it's best to get it checked by a workshop. It could be something simple, but overheating can seriously damage your engine. The speed sensor issue you brought up is probably a red herring, but a mechanic can diagnose for sure.

Appreciate the advice! I took it to the shop, and you were spot on – it was the radiator fan. Turns out, the speed sensor was fine. The total repair cost was 250€. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!

Overheating and a check engine light are definitely concerning! First thing, does the fan seem to be running at all? Sometimes a bad fan motor or even just a stuck fan blade can cause these symptoms. When a speed sensor fails, the car's computer gets confused, but that usually impacts shifting or throws transmission-related codes. If the fan's not running or sounds really loud and rough, that's your prime suspect. Does it sound like a jet engine taking off when it’s on?
