Lexus UX power loss whistling noise
Summary of the thread
A 2020 Lexus UX is experiencing power loss, sluggish acceleration, and a whistling noise that turns into a loud hissing sound, accompanied by a check engine light and increased fuel consumption. These symptoms suggest a potential issue with the boost pressure, possibly due to boost leaks or a faulty boost pressure actuator. It is recommended to check for leaks around the intercooler piping or vacuum lines and consider having a professional workshop inspect the electrical bypass valve, which was identified as defective in this case.

Boost leaks, huh? I haven't checked specifically for those yet. Where exactly should I be looking, and is there any way to test the boost pressure actuator without specialized tools?

With the Saab, the leaks were usually around the intercooler piping or vacuum lines connected to the turbo. As for the actuator, not really. If it's electrical bypass valve defective, testing it at home might be tricky without proper equipment. Maybe best to bring it to a workshop and have them check it.

I appreciate the input. Seems like a trip to the workshop is inevitable. It was in fact the electrical bypass valve that was defective. The total repair cost was around 250€.

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my old Saab 9-3 a few years back. Symptoms were almost identical – check engine light, power loss, weird noises under acceleration. I'm not a Lexus expert but did you check for boost leaks around the turbo? Maybe the boost pressure actuator is faulty?
