Misfires... good point. I haven't specifically checked for those. So, if it WAS the solenoid, how did you pinpoint it? I'm trying to avoid just throwing parts at it.

Well, I'm no mechanic, so take this with a grain of salt. I didn't pinpoint it myself. I took it to a workshop that specializes in Opels. They ran some diagnostics and confirmed the faulty solenoid. Given your symptoms and the error code, it's highly likely the culprit. I'd suggest getting a professional diagnosis before you start replacing parts.

Understood. Thanks for the advice! I'll book it in for a proper diagnosis. It was the VANOS solenoid as well. Cost me 250€ to replace but now it runs perfectly.

Hey there! I had similar symptoms on my old Opel Astra, though it was a diesel. The check engine light was on, and the fuel economy tanked. In my case, it was a faulty VANOS solenoid. Basically, VANOS (Variable Valve Timing) adjusts the engine's valves for optimal performance. When the solenoid goes bad, the timing goes out of whack. I'm no expert, but did you check for any engine misfires?
