LFA gear shift indicator failure

Guys, I'm freaking out. My 2010 Lexus LFA with a gasoline engine is throwing a spaz. The gear shift indicator is totally dead. I can't even get the thing into gear! It feels like the gearbox is slipping, shifting clunky, and making this awful grinding noise. The display on the dash is just blank where the gear should be showing. Plus, my local indy read the error memory and it’s showing some error related to the transmission control unit. Anyone seen anything like this before?

Summary of the thread

The gear shift indicator on a 2010 Lexus LFA has failed, causing the gearbox to slip, shift clunkily, and make grinding noises, with the dashboard display blank where the gear should be shown. The issue is suspected to be related to the transmission control unit, as indicated by error codes read by a local mechanic. A similar problem in another vehicle was resolved by addressing a faulty sensor in the transmission, suggesting that a professional diagnostic check is necessary to confirm the exact cause and solution.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Whoa, that sounds rough! I had a similar issue with my old Saab 9-3 a few years back. The gear indicator went bonkers, and the transmission started acting all kinds of weird. Couldn't trust it to shift properly, nearly got me into a couple of sticky situations!

Seriously? Wow, Saab 9-3... gear indicator failing... transmission problems... that sounds vaguely similar. What exactly went wrong with your Saab though? Was it also the transmission control unit or something else?

Yeah, it was a nightmare! Turns out it was a faulty sensor in the transmission. After all that, I would check with a workshop! They should be able to pinpoint the problem with your transmission using diagnostic tools.

Appreciate the info! I'm taking it to the shop tomorrow. I will share the diagnosis. Sounds like it's gonna be expensive! They're saying it's likely the transmission control unit and gonna be around 1000€ to fix.
