LFA Gearbox Slippage
Summary of the thread
A 2010 Lexus LFA is experiencing gearbox slippage and unclean shifting at 223,843 km. Diagnostics indicate transfer case oil wear, and defective gears are suspected as the cause. The grinding sound, especially on downshifts, and metallic-looking gear oil suggest mechanical wear. A technician confirmed defective gears in the transfer case, and the repair cost was approximately 330€.

Thanks! There is a grinding sound, mostly on downshifts. The gear oil shows wear. The gear oil was last changed about 50000 km ago. Can you tell me more about your experience and the grinding?

Yep, that grinding sound sealed the deal for me. Metallic oil and grinding are textbook. Honestly, I nursed it for a bit, but it got worse fast. Bite the bullet and get it checked by a reputable workshop. They'll confirm the gear damage and give you the bad news. Better now than when it leaves you stranded!

Whoa, LFA! Nice ride! I had similar shifting weirdness on mine – not fun. Was your gear grinding, especially on downshifts? Did you check the transfer case oil? Mechanical wear can do a number on those gears, like, make the oil look metallic and nasty. When was the last time you changed your gear oil?
