LFA Oil Pressure Warning

I'm experiencing a worrying issue with my 2010 Lexus LFA with a gasoline engine. Lately, the oil pressure warning lamp lights up intermittently, and I'm hearing loud mechanical noises coming from the engine. I checked for any obvious oil leakage, but everything seems dry. Could this be a faulty oil pressure sensor or perhaps low oil viscosity?

Summary of the thread

A 2010 Lexus LFA owner is experiencing an intermittent oil pressure warning light and loud mechanical noises from the engine. The issue could be due to a faulty oil pressure sensor or low oil viscosity, but the oil level is confirmed to be correct. A similar problem in another Lexus model was caused by a defective oil pump, suggesting that the LFA might have a similar issue. It is advised to have the vehicle checked by a reputable workshop to prevent potential severe engine damage.

That sounds concerning. I had a similar issue with my Lexus IS. The oil pressure gauge was fluctuating erratically, and I was getting some concerning engine noises. Have you checked the oil level? Sometimes a slightly low level can trigger these symptoms. Also, what kind of oil are you using?

Thanks for the quick response! The oil level is fine. It was changed recently, and it's at the correct mark on the dipstick. As for the oil type, I use the recommended grade specified in the owner's manual. What exactly was the cause of the issue with your IS?

In my case, it turned out to be a defect in the oil pump. It wasn't providing adequate pressure, especially at lower RPMs. Given your symptoms, it might be wise to get it checked by a reputable workshop. I ended up paying around 755€ for the repairs. Continuing to drive it with low oil pressure could lead to severe engine damage.

Thank you for sharing your experience! I suspected it might be something serious like the oil pump. Based on your advice, I'll definitely take it to a trusted mechanic to get it diagnosed properly. I appreciate the help!
