Light switch problems with Mercedes CLK Class 2012 - lights come on independently

Hey guys, I have a rather strange problem with my 2012 Mercedes CLK Class (petrol engine). The lighting is totally crazy - the lights just come on. I suspect that the light switch is not working properly. Have any of you ever had a situation like this or have any troubleshooting tips? How did you get it fixed at the garage? Would be grateful for any practical experience!

Hi, I drive a similar Mercedes, the 2010 CLK Class, and once had exactly the same problem with my car. I'm more of a car enthusiast with some experience, so I tried to look at it myself first, but no chance. I then took the car to my regular garage. It wasn't the light switch or anything that could be fixed "just like that". It was the control unit! The guys had to replace it completely. It cost me around 1000 euros. Not fun at all, but everything has worked like a charm ever since. To help you more accurately, it would be good if you could provide a little more information about your car. What model is it exactly and how many kilometers has it done? Does the car have any other symptoms? Anything you can give us will help. Bethke91

Hey Bethke91, thanks for your tip. My car has already run 1392 km and everything was actually fine at the last service. There are no other symptoms, only this light problem is giving me a headache, really annoying. And I was worried that it might be something serious... Well, I'll just have to take it to the garage. Thank you for your help!

Hey, no problem, that's what we're here for. It could really be the control unit, especially as your car has already done a fair amount of mileage. Unfortunately, these can sometimes cause problems. The fault memory readout in the workshop often helps to find the exact cause. I would advise you to really have it checked at the garage. Sure, it's annoying and can be expensive, but safety should always come first, especially with something as important as the lighting. Nevertheless, I hope it turns out to be a little less expensive for you than it was for me. Keep your fingers crossed that it will be resolved quickly and easily! Please give us an update on how it went. All the best!

Hey Bethke91, thanks for your words and the detailed explanation. To be on the safe side, I'll take it to the garage and have it checked out. After all, safety comes first, especially when it comes to lighting. I'm glad that there are people like you who are willing to share their experiences and help others. Wish me luck and I'll definitely keep you posted on what comes of it! Thanks again!
