Linea Cruise Control Failure

Hi, my 2014 Fiat Linea with a gasoline engine has developed a fault. The cruise control has stopped working entirely. No dashboard light, no response from the steering wheel buttons. I checked the usual suspects – fuses seem okay, and the brake lights are working fine. I even ran a diagnostic and it shows an error stored in the error memory. Any ideas before I start pulling things apart?

Summary of the thread

A 2014 Fiat Linea experienced a complete cruise control failure, with no dashboard light or response from the steering wheel buttons. Initial checks of fuses and brake lights showed no issues, but a diagnostic revealed a generic 'cruise control malfunction' error. The problem was traced to a defective plug connection, which was resolved by cleaning the connector, restoring the cruise control functionality.

Greetings. I must say, your predicament sounds awfully familiar. I had a similar situation arise some time ago with my Opel Astra, also involving the cruise control system. The symptoms you describe – complete lack of function and an error code – mirror my experience almost exactly. Have you considered the possibility of a defective cable or a faulty plug connection to the component? What kind of error code did the diagnostic tool reveal?

Thanks for the reply. The error code was quite generic, something along the lines of 'cruise control malfunction'. Regarding the cable or plug connection, where would you suggest I start looking? Is there a common point of failure?

Ah, a generic error code, those are always a joy. In my case, it turned out to be a corroded connector leading to the cruise control module itself. Given the age of our vehicles, such issues become increasingly common. While I cannot pinpoint a precise location on your Fiat Linea, I would advise a thorough inspection of all relevant connectors and wiring harnesses, especially those exposed to the elements or subject to frequent movement. However, I must concede that without specialized diagnostic equipment and expertise, pinpointing the issue may prove difficult. Perhaps a visit to a reputable workshop is in order?

Thanks, I appreciate the advice. I took it to the workshop, and you were right, it was a defective plug connection. They cleaned it up and charged me 95€, and now the cruise control works again.
