Livinia belt tensioner malfunction
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Nissan Livinia with a gasoline engine is experiencing a malfunctioning belt tensioner, specifically with the belt-handover function not operating. The issue is suspected to be due to a defective belt bringer/handover. A workshop confirmed the problem as a defective belt tensioner, and it is suggested to have it repaired to resolve the issue.

The tensioner pulley's movement appears somewhat restricted, exhibiting a degree of stiffness. In your experience with the Opel Astra, did the faulty idler pulley directly impede the belt-handover mechanism, or did it manifest primarily as slippage and noise?

In my case, it was mostly slippage and noise, but a stiff pulley can definitely mess with the belt tension and cause all sorts of problems. If it's not moving freely, it's probably the root cause. Best to get it checked out by a workshop.

The workshop confirmed the defective belt tensioner. The repair, including parts and labor, will cost approximately 455€.

Sounds frustrating! I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra. The symptoms were almost identical – belt slipping and weird noises. Turned out to be a faulty idler pulley. Is the tensioner pulley moving freely?
