Looking for advice and mechanic recommendations for overheating Citroen DS5
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Citroen DS5 is experiencing constant overheating and a check engine light issue. The suspected cause is a problem with the coolant pump. A similar case with a Citroen C4 involved a defective cable on the pump/control unit, leading to a short circuit. The suggested solution is to have a specialist inspect the vehicle, possibly at a different garage, to determine if the issue is indeed a minor cable problem.

Hey person2, thanks for your tips! Good to know that it could just be a cable - makes the whole thing a lot less scary. Can you remember roughly what you paid for the repair at the time? And did anything else go wrong afterwards or did everything go smoothly? Best regards!

Hey, I'm glad I could help you! Back then, I paid around €220 for the defective cable and the repair to the control unit. It wasn't exactly free, but it was still cheaper than a new engine, wasn't it? And since then my Citroen has been running like clockwork! After the repair, the coolant pump worked perfectly again and I had no more problems. Sometimes it really is just a little thing that causes trouble. I've been driving since then without any worries and everything is wonderful! Best regards!

Hi Person2, It's really great that you were able to get your Citroen running again so cheaply! That definitely gives me hope and takes the pressure off my wallet. Thank you for your experience and help. I'll probably start looking for a new garage and hope that it's "just" a cable in my case. I'll get back to you with more news. See you soon and take care!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2013 Citroen C4 (petrol, 105k KM). It turned out that the cable on the pump/control unit was defective. I was really glad it wasn't a serious problem with the engine! The error message was apparently due to a short circuit. It sounds similar from your description, could well be that. But be sure to have a specialist look at it, you never know. You could possibly have it checked at another garage if you no longer have confidence in your current one. Good luck with that, hope it's nothing serious! Greetings, Person2
