Looking for advice on problems with Audi A3: jerking, fuel consumption and possible camshaft adjustment
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
An Audi A3 owner is experiencing issues with the car jerking during acceleration, excessive fuel consumption, and unusual engine noises, along with a persistent engine warning light and power loss. The suspected cause is a problem with the camshaft phasing unit. A similar issue in an Audi A1 was resolved by identifying a worn camshaft, leading to a costly repair. It is suggested to have the car checked at a garage and consider warranty options due to the car's relatively low mileage and age.

Hello, thanks for the quick reply and the tips. It doesn't sound good, quite expensive. My Audi A3 currently has 36890 km on it - I think, so that's not really much. No abnormalities were found at the last service, so I'm really surprised to have such big problems now. I'll take your advice to heart and have it checked at the garage. Maybe I'll be lucky and it won't be quite so expensive. Thanks again for your help!

Hello, no problem, that's what we're here for! With just under 37000 km on the clock, it is indeed surprising that your A3 is causing such problems. Perhaps it could also be a production fault. In fact, your A3 isn't very old and shouldn't be causing such massive problems, so it could also be under warranty, you should also check with your Audi dealer. I hope it's nothing serious for you and you can arrange for a cheaper repair. Give us an update later on how it went. Good luck and I hope everything works out!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my Audi A1 (2016, petrol), the sister model to your A3. I would classify myself as someone with low car experience. My garage identified the camshaft as the cause after a precise diagnosis, it had run in. The repair cost me a whopping 2470 euros, not a Sunday outing I tell you! For more comprehensive support, it would also be helpful to know more information about your car. What engine do you have exactly? Has your car already covered a lot of kilometers? I hope my experience helps you!
