Looking for solutions to problems with Renault Fluence Diesel 2016 - black smoke, loss of power and unstable engine

Hey guys, I have a strange problem with my Renault Fluence Diesel, built in 2016. The car is acting up with black smoke from the exhaust when accelerating, the engine shuts off by itself, loss of power, rough engine, jerking when accelerating, poor fuel consumption, strong exhaust smell and it even shuts off when idling. I suspect it could be the low pressure fuel system, but I'm not sure. Have any of you ever had similar problems and how did you get it fixed at the garage? What experiences have you had? Any tips would be super helpful.

Hi, I have had a similar problem with my 2014 Renault Mégane Diesel. Sounds like you're dealing with the fuel pump. I have some experience with cars, but I'm not a professional either. At my garage, the mechanic did the diagnosis and found that the software values for my fuel pump were wrong. The solution was then pretty simple, they reset the software and the problem was fixed. I then paid €45 for this, which I think was fine. Could you perhaps tell us a bit more about your car? How many kilometers has it done? And when was the last time it was serviced? That might help me to help you more accurately, as I had a similar problem.

Hey, thanks for your answer! My Flunence currently has 135657 km on it and the last service was about six months ago. I've already been to the authorized dealer, but they couldn't really help me. They also wanted a huge amount of money for a new pump, which I really can't afford right now. But if it really is just a case of incorrectly set software, this might be my salvation. I'm still waiting for a few more answers, but I think I'll make an appointment. $45 is definitely better than a new pump. Thanks for the tip!

Hey, glad I could be of some help! Your mileage and the timing of your last service sound normal, so I don't think it's anything really bad. Especially as the car still seems to be in reasonable condition. I hardly think you need a new pump. It looks like the software is a bit confused. This happens from time to time, especially as the car gets older. It was the same with my Renault Mégane. So my advice: try the software update first. The fault could lie elsewhere, but this is the first and cheapest step. I paid €45 for it and since then my car has been running like the first day. Get in touch if you have any further questions, I'll be happy to help. I'm not a mechanic, but I do know a few tricks you can try for problems like this. Good luck and keep us posted on how it goes.

Hello again! Great that you replied so quickly! Your insights really helped and I also think it's relatively unlikely that I'll need a new pump. The software update sounds very plausible, I just hadn't thought about it. I will definitely talk to the garage about it and hopefully I can keep the costs down. Your tips have really helped me and I hope there are lots of people out there who are as helpful as you. I'll definitely be in touch if I have any news or further questions. Many thanks again!
