Loud Engine Noise in Cold Condition and Unusual Exhaust Sound in 2005 Mazda Premacy: Potential Exhaust Flap Issue

Hey fellow car enthusiasts, I've got some concerns about my 2005 Mazda Premacy (diesel, clocked 283,832 KM). I've noticed that my ride has a pretty loud engine when cold and the exhaust is louder than usual. Has anyone here experienced the same? Also, thinking it could be an issue with the exhaust flap malfunctioning, what do you guys think? My last visit to the mechanic wasn't so great, so I'd like to get your insights or experiences about similar issues before I dive back in. Thanks in advance!

Hey! Had a similar issue with my 2008 Mazda Atenza not too long ago. Fair bit of noise from the engine when cold and the exhaust did sound a bit more noisier than I'd prefer. Turns out, it was indeed the exhaust flap that was playing up. This isn't too big of a deal to fix, but sure can make your car act funny if you don't straighten out in time. Last time I checked in my ride to the garage, they confirmed that the hoopla was because of a defective exhaust flap. The mechanics there told me that because of constant exposure to high temperatures and corrosive exhaust gases, these flaps don't tend to last as long as other components. So, they swapped out the defective one and got it running normal again. Let me tell ya, getting the exhaust flap fixed did a world of good for my car's performance. Engine's not half as loud and the exhaust is back to its normal low hum. Hope that helps! Good luck with getting your ride back in shape. Don't worry, it ain't too big of a worry.

Hey there, Thanks for sharing your experience with the noisy engine and exhaust situation. Good to know that a wonky exhaust flap could be the culprit! Your story is making me more confident about my suspicions. Just out of curiosity, do you remember how much you dished out to get that exhaust flap fixed? And since the repair, have you noticed any new or recurring issues with your Atenza? I'm just trying to figure out what I might have to brace myself for beyond this problem. Cheers!

Hey! Happy to help with some advice. Yeah, the nuisances of an improperly functioning exhaust flap are surprising, to say the least! So, when I had my exhaust flap checked and ultimately fixed up, it set me back by about 190 bucks, not too hefty in the grand scheme of things. I gotta tell you, since getting it fixed up, the old Atenza has been running smoothly as ever. The mechanic did a stellar job. Resetting the normal engine noise and the exhaust sound back to its usual level was seriously a relief. So, to answer your question, no new or recurring annoying issues till now. So, don't fret too much. Trust me, it's a completely manageable fix. You'll have your Mazda Premacy humming like new in no time! Good luck 'n' cheers!

Hey! Thanks a bunch for the reassurance and sharing your experience in so much detail. It's great to hear your Atenza is running smoothly after the fix. The cost doesn't sound too steep either, considering the massive relief it's going to be to sort out the noisy engine and exhaust situation. And just as predicted, your story has definitely made me feel more confident about handling this issue. I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet, and take my Premacy to the mechanic. Fingers crossed, it will all turn out fine! I really appreciate your help and time. Take care and happy driving! Cheers!
