LX Gear Shift Indicator Failure
Summary of the thread
A 2013 Lexus LX diesel is experiencing a complete failure of the gear shift indicator, leading to an inability to engage gears, erratic automatic transmission shifting, grinding noises, and multiple error messages. A similar issue was resolved by replacing a faulty control unit, which was diagnosed quickly by a professional workshop. It is recommended to have the vehicle checked by professionals to confirm the cause and avoid further complications.

Interesting! Was it completely dead, or just acting erratically before it failed? How difficult was it to diagnose? Any tips on confirming the control unit is the culprit?

Yeah, it started acting up intermittently and then just died completely. Honestly, I took it straight to a workshop as I didn't want to risk making things worse. They confirmed it was the control unit pretty quickly. Best to get it checked professionally.

Okay, appreciate the heads up! Sounds like I'm heading to the workshop. Just wanted to get an idea of what I might be in for. Thanks a lot, will post a resolution when it's sorted. Ended up costing 1000€, just for the record.

Sounds familiar. I had something similar happen with my LX. Is it throwing any codes? Mine turned out to be a dodgy control unit. It caused all sorts of chaos with the shifting.
