M Klasse clutch pedal switch issue

My 2006 Mercedes M Klasse with a gasoline engine is giving me fits. It's got 267052 km on the clock. The big problem is what I think is a faulty clutch pedal switch. I've got an error code stored, the gear selection display in the speedometer is totally dead, cruise control is a no-go, AND the engine sometimes refuses to start. I'm guessing it's something simple like a bad cable or plug connection. Has anyone else run into this? I'm staring down the barrel of a 95€ repair bill, so any advice is hugely appreciated before I take it in.

Whoa, sounds familiar! I had almost the exact same symptoms on my M Klasse a while back. The clutch switch is part of the whole safety mechanism, you know, preventing you from starting the car in gear and messing things up. When that goes haywire, it messes with everything. Did you check the Clutch Pedal switch itself? Maybe give the connector a wiggle and see if that helps? It could be just a loose connection or some corrosion on the contacts. Before you spend the cash, that's worth a shot.

Thanks for the quick reply! So, when you say 'check the switch,' where exactly IS that thing located? I'm not totally clueless, but I'm not exactly a master mechanic either. And wiggle the connector... you mean just like, pull it a little and push it back in? Sorry for the questions, just trying to get this sorted without making things worse!

Yeah, the clutch switch is usually right up near the top of the clutch pedal arm, where it pivots. You'll probably have to get down on the floor and look up under the dash to see it. And yeah, wiggle the connector – gently! You're just trying to see if there's a loose connection. Honestly, though, with all those symptoms and the error code, it probably IS the switch itself. If you're not comfortable messing with it, I'd recommend taking it to a shop. Could save you a bigger headache in the long run.

Alright, appreciate the help! I took your advice and had the shop take a look. You were spot on – it was the clutch pedal switch. They replaced it, and everything is back to normal. 95€ later, but at least it's fixed. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!
