M Klasse fuel level sensor issue

My 2012 Mercedes M Klasse gasoline engine is giving me fits The car dashboard lit up and the check engine light is on It stalled twice at idle I got a code related to the fuel level sensor The fuel gauge seems wonky Could it be a fuse issue Mileage is 129507 km Any ideas before I take it to the dealer

Your symptoms certainly point towards a fuel system anomaly I experienced a somewhat comparable situation with my M Klasse I would advise against immediately assuming a blown fuse While that is a possibility, a faulty fuel sensor is a more plausible culprit, considering the error code and the stalling Have you observed any inconsistencies in the fuel gauge readings prior to the check engine light illumination The ECU might be misinterpreting the fuel level data, causing the engine to stall due to a perceived fuel shortage Inconsistent fuel trims would corroborate this theory

The fuel gauge has been acting a bit strange for a while now, bouncing around a little even when the tank is full I thought it was just a minor glitch What do you mean by 'fuel trims' Also, if it is the level sensor, is that a complicated repair

Given the erratic fuel gauge behavior, a defective level sensor seems increasingly likely Fuel trims, in essence, are adjustments made by the engine control unit (ECU) to maintain the optimal air-fuel ratio If the fuel sensor is providing inaccurate data, the ECU will compensate, potentially leading to issues like stalling Replacing the level sensor typically necessitates dropping the fuel tank, which can be hazardous if not performed correctly I recommend a qualified technician handle the repair The potential ramifications of improper fuel system work are not insignificant You could try the fuse first, but I suspect the level sensor is the root cause

You were spot on Took it to my local shop They confirmed it was the fuel level sensor They checked the fuse first, but that wasn't it New level sensor installed, and everything is back to normal Final bill was 52€ for the part Thanks for pointing me in the right direction
