M Klasse power window issue after battery replacement

I'm hoping someone can help. I've got a 2008 Mercedes M Klasse with a gasoline engine, around 254585 km on the clock. Recently, I replaced the battery, and now the power window controls are completely dead. None of the windows will budge. I scanned it with my OBD tool and it's throwing an error related to the window regulator initialization. It's like it just doesn't know the window positions anymore. I've checked the fuses, and they seem fine. Anyone experienced something similar? Any window troubleshooting tips before I start tearing into the door panels?

Sounds familiar. I had a similar power window issue with my M Klasse after some electrical work. The window regulator needs to be reset or initialized. Try holding the window switch down for a few seconds even after the window is fully down, then do the same going up. Did you try that already?

Thanks for the quick reply! I did try the holding-the-switch trick, but no luck. I held it down and up for at least 10 seconds each time, but the car window stayed put. When you say 'electrical work,' was it also the battery replacement that caused it for you? Did you have the exact same symptoms – error code and everything?

Yes, the symptoms were spot on, error code and everything. And yes, it happened right after a battery change. I spent a lot of time on window troubleshooting without success. In the end, I bit the bullet and took it to a workshop. They reinitialized something with their fancy computer. That fixed it for me.

Okay, that's what I was afraid of. Sounds like I've exhausted my limited car window repair options. I'll take your advice and schedule an appointment with a mechanic. They quoted around 290€ for the job. Thanks for sharing your experience!
