Hey there, thanks for sharing your experience with the EGR valve issue. This sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with on my M3. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other problems pop up?

Thanks for asking about the costs! Just to follow up, yeah, I got it sorted at the shop and it ended up being 355 € for the complete EGR valve repair. They found the valve was completely jammed up, just like I suspected. I'm really happy to report that since getting it fixed, my M4's been running like a dream. None of those annoying symptoms have come back, no more hissing, jerking, or power loss. The fuel economy's back to normal too, which is a nice bonus for my wallet! It was definitely worth every penny. The car feels like new again, and I haven't had a single issue since the repair. If you're experiencing similar symptoms, I'd say go for it and get it fixed sooner rather than later. These valve problems only get worse if you leave them, and you really don't want to risk more expensive engine damage down the line. Just make sure you find a reliable mechanic who knows their way around BMW engines. It's not the most complicated repair, but you want someone who knows what they're doing.

Thanks so much for the detailed reply about the costs and how it's been running. Just wanted to update you, I actually bit the bullet and got it fixed yesterday! Found a really good mechanic who specializes in BMWs. The whole thing cost me a bit more, around 400€, since they had to do some extra cleaning of the intake manifold. But what a difference! The car's running smooth as silk now, no more hissing, no jerking, and the power's back to normal. Even my fuel consumption has improved dramatically. The mechanic showed me the old valve, it was completely clogged with carbon buildup, just like yours was. He also gave me some tips about preventive maintenance to avoid this happening again. Really glad I didn't wait any longer to get it fixed. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it really helped me make the decision to get it sorted right away.

Had the same symptoms on my 2015 BMW M4. The EGR valve was completely stuck, carbon-caked, and causing all sorts of trouble. Had rough idling, power loss, and that exact same hissing you're describing during acceleration. The smoke and jerking were major red flags too. Got it fixed at the shop two months back. They had to clean the entire EGR system and ended up replacing the valve since it was too far gone. The carbon buildup was pretty serious, it had started affecting the intake manifold too. The mechanics showed me the old valve, and it was completely gunked up. Not something you want to ignore, if left untreated, it can cause bigger engine problems down the line. The repair made a night and day difference in how the car runs. Power's back, fuel economy's normal, and that annoying hissing is gone. Definitely get it checked soon. This isn't a DIY job unless you really know what you're doing.
