Malfunction of the wipers on the VW Touareg Diesel 2010: Possible sensor defect
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
The issue revolves around the malfunctioning wipers on a 2010 VW Touareg Diesel, suspected to be caused by a faulty rain/light sensor. One participant shared a similar experience with a sensor issue in their Audi A7, suggesting that the sensor could be the problem. It was recommended to have the sensor checked by a mechanic. Additionally, it was suggested to check the fuse for the wipers before visiting the mechanic, as a blown fuse could also be the cause of the problem.

Hey, thanks for your quick reply! I will definitely have the sensor in my Touareg checked. Just wanted to make sure before I go back to the mechanic. Last time the guys weren't exactly the quickest... Do you happen to remember how much it cost you last time? And have you had any similar problems since then? Thank you in advance for your help!

Hey, yes, I can really understand your frustration. It's true, some mechanics take a long time... But tell me, regarding your question about the cost, it was really okay for me. At the time, I had to pay around €62. They had somehow fixed a blister under the gel pad on the windshield. I think it was a fair price. Since my visit to the mechanic, however, everything has been working wonderfully, no more trouble. That damn malfunction of the rain/light sensor that caused me so much stress back then was successfully repaired. No more lights that turn on and off at will! So take it easy and get it checked. Maybe you'll have better luck with the mechanics this time. Good luck!

Hey, great, that calms me down a bit. 62 € doesn't sound too bad. I'll probably plan a visit to the mechanic after all. I hope everything goes as smoothly for me as it did for you. You've really helped me a lot. Thanks again and have a nice day!

Before you head to the mechanic, it's a good idea to check the fuse for the wipers. It's a simple and quick check that you can do yourself. If the fuse is blown, replacing it might solve your problem. If the fuse is fine, then it's likely a sensor issue as you suspected.

Hey buddy, I understand what you're going through. I had similar issues with my 2013 Audi A7 last month, but with the lights - turned on and off when they wanted to. The diagnosis ended up being a sensor issue. A bit more serious than just a fuse change, but no need to panic. Maybe you could check the sensor in your VW. If it is indeed the rain/light sensor, it could explain the problem with the wipers. Stay calm and take it to the mechanic - last time it was all done efficiently and professionally for me. Hope that helps! All the best!
