Malibu diesel low oil pressure
Summary of the thread
A 2015 Chevrolet Malibu diesel is experiencing low oil pressure at 116,652 km, with the oil pressure warning lamp on and loud mechanical noises from the engine. The issue could be due to a clogged oil filter or oil pump failure. After checking the oil level and confirming low pressure on the gauge, it was suggested that the oil pump might be defective. The vehicle was towed to a workshop, where the oil pump was confirmed as the problem and subsequently repaired.

Oil level is fine, but I haven't checked the oil viscosity. The gauge confirms low pressure. The oil filter was changed at the last service interval, about 8000 km ago. Is there anything else I should check before assuming the worst?

8000 km on the filter shouldn't be an issue, and since the gauge confirms low pressure, plus you're hearing noises, it's pointing strongly to the pump. Best not to run it. Get it to a workshop before it causes further damage. You might need a new engine if you keep driving it. A defect in the oil pump is the likely cause.

Thanks for the advice. I had it towed to a workshop. You were right; it was the oil pump. Repair cost was 755€. Appreciate the help!

That sounds serious. Low oil pressure plus engine noise is never good. Have you checked the oil level and oil viscosity? What does the oil pressure gauge read, if equipped? It does sound like oil pump failure, though. How old is the oil filter?
