Malibu hissing sound and fuel consumption
Summary of the thread
A 2022 Chevrolet Malibu owner experienced increased fuel consumption, a check engine light, and a loud hissing sound during acceleration. The issue was suspected to be related to the turbocharger, but advice pointed towards a potential leak in the air intake hose. An air intake hose leak, you say? Where exactly is that located, and is it something I could potentially fix myself? I'm not very experienced with car repairs, but I'm willing to give it a shot!

Well, on the Volvo, it was between the air filter box and the intake manifold. Honestly, unless you're comfortable poking around the engine, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop. A small leak can cause big problems, and you don't want to mess anything else up. Cost me around 100€ to fix it.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I'll take it to a mechanic to get it checked out. It's probably for the best, considering my limited experience. It was indeed an intake hose leaking, just like you said. The mechanic replaced it, and everything's back to normal. The final repair cost was exactly 100€! Thanks again!

That sounds super frustrating. I had a similar issue with my old Volvo, a real gas guzzler it was. Same symptoms: check engine light, terrible fuel economy, and a hissing sound that drove me nuts! Turned out to be a leak in the air intake hose. Have you checked that?
