Malibu Hybrid Oxygen Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid is experiencing a check engine light and increased fuel consumption, with an OBD scanner indicating an oxygen sensor error. The issue is suspected to be caused by a bad cable or plug, possibly due to corrosion or damage in the wiring harness. Cleaning attempts were unsuccessful, leading to the recommendation of professional inspection. Ultimately, the oxygen sensor and cable were replaced, resolving the problem and normalizing fuel consumption.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I checked the wiring and connectors, and there's a lot of grime and some corrosion. I cleaned it, but no luck. Any cleaning tips, or should I just replace it?

Cleaning might help for a bit, but with corrosion that bad, it'll probably keep happening. Since it's a hybrid, the O2 sensor could mess with the exhaust system too. I'd get a pro to look at it before you waste time guessing. Better safe than sorry!

Took your advice and went to a shop. You were right, the oxygen sensor was old and the cable was bad. Cost 95€ to fix, and my fuel consumption is back to normal. Thanks again!

I had a similar headache with my old Audi A4. Check engine light, O2 sensor code... the works. In my case, the car was guzzling fuel like crazy. Did you check the sensor's wiring harness for any corrosion or damage? That was the culprit in my case.
