Malibu Oxygen Sensor Heater Error
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid exhibited a check engine light with an oxygen sensor heater error, accompanied by increased fuel consumption. Initial inspection showed no visible issues with the sensor's wiring and plug. A similar past issue suggested checking for corrosion or damage at the sensor's plug connection. Upon professional inspection, slight corrosion was found and resolved by cleaning and replacing a section of the harness, resolving the error.

When you say 'defective connection,' do you mean right at the sensor, or further up the wiring harness? Was it obvious when you found it, or did it take some probing to locate?

In my case, it was at the plug connection to the sensor. Upon closer inspection, there was slight corrosion that wasn't immediately visible. Given the symptoms and error code, and considering you've already visually inspected it, I'd advise getting it checked at a workshop to avoid further damage. The error memory will give them a good head start to check the component.

I took it to my local mechanic, and you were spot on – it was the connector! They cleaned everything up and replaced a small section of the harness, and the light's gone. Cost me about 95€.

I had a similar issue with my Chevrolet Malibu. The malfunction indicator lamp kept illuminating, and the error memory pointed to the heater element in the exhaust system's oxygen sensor. It turned out to be a defective connection. Have you checked the cable for corrosion or damage?
