Marea DPF Defect

I have a 2000 Fiat Marea, diesel engine, with 112040 km. Recently, I've noticed a significant reduction in engine power, especially uphill. There's also quite a bit of smoke when I accelerate. I suspect it might be the diesel particulate filter (DPF). Has anyone else experienced similar symptoms? I've checked for any obvious issues, but nothing stands out.

Summary of the thread

A 2000 Fiat Marea with a diesel engine is experiencing reduced power and excessive smoke, suspected to be due to a diesel particulate filter (DPF) defect. The symptoms align with a clogged DPF, which can cause performance issues. A suggested solution is to force a regeneration cycle, though this may require professional equipment and expertise. Ultimately, a workshop inspection confirmed the DPF was defective, necessitating replacement to resolve the problem.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds familiar! I had something similar happen with my Marea, though it was a while back. The engine light came on too, right? That smoke on acceleration is a pain. Have you tried forcing a regeneration cycle? Sometimes the DPF gets clogged and needs a good cleanout.

Thanks for the quick reply! The engine light hasn't come on, surprisingly. As for the regeneration cycle, how would I go about forcing one? I'm not very familiar with the process. Is it something I can do myself, or does it require special equipment?

Okay, no engine light is a bit odd, but still points to the DPF being the issue. Honestly, forcing a regeneration can be tricky and might not even solve it if it's really blocked. I ended up taking mine to a workshop, they have the proper tools to diagnose it properly and trigger a regeneration. In the end, they told me the DPF was defective and needed replacing.

Thanks for the advice. I appreciate you sharing your experience. I'll take it to a workshop for a proper vehicle inspection. Turns out, the workshop confirmed that the DPF was indeed defective. The eventual repair cost was 1550€. Hopefully, this will resolve the issue.
