Mark X exhaust back pressure sensor issue

Hi, I have a 2012 Toyota Mark X with a gasoline engine. I'm experiencing some issues – a warning light on the speedometer and excessive smoke when accelerating. My scanner indicates a malfunction in the exhaust back pressure sensor. The car has 97276 km. Anyone seen this before?

I had something similar with my Mark X. Same symptoms, warning light and smoke. Have you checked the sensor itself for any obvious damage or loose connections? Could also be a clogged exhaust, but the sensor is the more likely culprit.

Thanks for the info. No visible damage to the sensor or the connections. How did you pinpoint the sensor as the problem? Did you try replacing it yourself or did you take it to a shop?

Honestly, I didn't mess with it too much. After checking the basics like you did, I took it straight to a workshop. They confirmed it was the exhaust back pressure sensor. Cost me around 245€ to get it sorted. Saved me a lot of headaches.

Appreciate the insight. Sounds like a trip to the workshop is in order. Thanks for sharing your experience!
