MarkX control unit communication error
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Toyota Mark X is experiencing a control unit communication error, leading to engine overheating, a check engine light, and coolant spills. The suspected cause is a bad cable or plug. A similar issue in another vehicle was resolved by addressing a corroded connector, suggesting that a wiring issue might be causing the communication breakdown. The problem was ultimately fixed by repairing a defective plug.

Corroded connector you say? Where exactly was the issue on your Megane?

On the Megane, it was the data link connector under the dash. Get a car diagnostics ran, it sounds like a wiring issue causing the communication breakdown, like a short circuit. At this point I would take it to your local workshop.

Thanks, I appreciate the insight. It was indeed a defective plug. Got it repaired for 95€.

Sounds frustrating! I had a similar gremlin with my old Renault Megane. Check engine light, weird sensor readings... turned out to be a corroded connector causing all sorts of chaos. It's like a bad phone line – data gets garbled and the whole system freaks out!
