Massage Chair Feature Dead? Fix Common Switch Failures

Having trouble with massage seat functions in my 2016 Colorado. The massage chair controls are completely unresponsive, and the system's throwing an error code. Checked the seat motor connections but no luck. Has anyone dealt with similar electrical issues in their Colorado seats? Specifically interested in what parts needed replacement and repair costs. Car upholstery and other seat functions work fine, it's just the massage feature that's dead. Wanting to know what to expect before heading to the shop.

Had a similar issue in my 2018 Canyon, another great truck from the same family. The massage setting completely died on the driver's seat. Being somewhat familiar with automotive seats and electrical issues, I checked the basic stuff first, fuses and visible wiring, but no dice. Took it to the shop where they found a loose connection in the massage seat control module. The cable harness had worked itself loose over time, pretty common with luxury car features like this. Total fix was around 95 for the connector repair and diagnostic, way better than replacing the whole seat motor assembly. Quick question though, is your error showing on the center display or seat controls? Also, does this happen in all massage modes or just specific ones? These details would help nail down if you're dealing with the same connector issue I had.

Thanks for sharing that experience. My error shows on both the seat controls and center display, it's a general system fault rather than mode-specific. The massage setting completely fails to respond in any mode. Tried scanning with my basic OBD reader after the last service at 54734 KM but couldn't get any useful codes. Good to hear yours was just a connector issue. The diagnostic cost seems reasonable. Did your shop mention if the electrical issue could've caused any damage to the massage chair components over time? Just worried about potential cascading problems since it's been acting up for a few weeks now.

Yeah, totally get your concern about potential damage. When I had my Canyon's massage seat issue, I actually asked the shop the same thing about long-term effects. They assured me that these massage systems have built-in fail-safes that prevent component damage when electrical issues pop up. The seat control module basically shuts everything down when it detects problems, that's why you're seeing errors on both displays, just like I did. It's actually a good sign that your luxury car's protection systems are working as designed. In my case, once they fixed that loose connector, the entire massage setting system came back online without any lingering issues. Been working perfectly for over a year now. The electronic control unit runs a self-test when power's restored, so any damaged components would show up right away. One thing to watch for, if the seat switch or control module gets really hot when you try to activate the massage function, power it down immediately. That could indicate a short circuit rather than just a connection issue. But from what you're describing, sounds exactly like what I dealt with.

Thanks for that detailed explanation, really helpful. I've noticed the control module stays completely cool, so that's somewhat reassuring about the short circuit concern. Going to schedule a diagnostic appointment this week since it sounds like a relatively straightforward fix based on your experience. The fact that your system's been running smoothly for a year after repair gives me confidence it's worth fixing rather than just living without the massage feature. Just hoping my seat switch issue is also a simple connector problem like yours. The massage seat has been such a nice feature for long drives, definitely want to get it working again, especially if the repair cost is reasonable like what you paid. Will make sure they check all the connections and run that self-test once everything's hooked back up.
