Master DPF Defective
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Renault Master diesel experienced reduced engine power and excessive smoke during acceleration, raising concerns about a defective Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). The symptoms, including an illuminated engine light and decreased fuel efficiency, suggested a blocked or damaged DPF. A vehicle inspection confirmed the issue, leading to the replacement of the defective DPF to restore proper vehicle function.

Thanks for the quick reply! The engine light is on, yes. Fuel efficiency seems a bit worse too. What sort of damage could it be? And is replacing the only option then?

Damage can range from melted internals to cracks. Once the DPF is compromised structurally, cleaning is pointless. Replacing is often the only reliable fix. A faulty DPF can cause more engine problems down the line, so don't delay. Take it to a workshop.

OK, thanks for the advice. I took it to a garage, and you were spot on. The DPF was indeed defective. Had to get a new one fitted. Cost me 1550€, but at least it's sorted now.

Sounds like it. Reduced power and smoke usually points to a blocked or defective DPF. Has the engine light come on? Have you noticed a drop in fuel efficiency? A vehicle inspection to measure the backpressure could confirm this. DPF cleaning might help if it's just blocked, but if it's damaged, it'll need replacing.
