Matrix brake light issue
Summary of the thread
A 2005 Hyundai Matrix owner experienced intermittent brake light failures and an error message, with a fault related to the brake light switch. The issue was identified as a faulty brake switch, a common problem that can be resolved by checking or adjusting the switch. A professional inspection confirmed the switch was the cause, and a simple reset or adjustment resolved the issue without needing replacement.

Thanks for the reply. When you say 'checked the switch', what exactly do you mean? Is that something I can easily do myself, or is it best left to a professional?

I had a shop do it, because messing with electrical components can be tricky. If the switch is faulty, it might just be a matter of replacing it, but it's worth having someone experienced take a look to make sure it's not a wiring issue or something else entirely.

Thanks for the suggestion. I took it to a shop and you were spot on. They checked the brake switch and it was indeed the culprit, likely due to my driving style apparently. They simply reset or adjusted it, didn't even need a new one so it was free. Appreciate the help!

Hey, I also have a Matrix. I had a similar problem with the brake lights. It turned out to be the brake switch itself. It's the little electrical component activated by the brake pedal when you push it. Have you checked the switch itself?
