Matrix Charge Air Temperature Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2004 Toyota Matrix is experiencing a check engine light, power reduction, and a charge air temperature sensor error, accompanied by a whistling and hissing noise during acceleration. Initial diagnostics suggest a defective cable or plug connection as the cause. A similar case was resolved by checking the sensor or connection at a workshop, leading to the error code being cleared and the engine performing well again. Booking an appointment with a mechanic is recommended for a proper diagnosis and repair.

Thanks. I haven't gotten live data readings yet, I was mainly looking for visual damage. Could you tell me more about your experience? Were the symptoms the same, and did you fix it yourself?

My situation was almost exactly the same. If the charge air temperature sensor reads wrong, the engine won't perform well. I couldn't fix it myself and would suggest a workshop visit to check the sensor or connection, since I'm not fully qualified. After the repair, the error code was gone and the engine worked fine.

Thanks for sharing. Since our cases are so similar, and I'm not great at diagnostics, I'll book an appointment with a trusted mechanic. The repair should be around 95€. Your input really helped me decide.

I also drive a Matrix. Your symptoms sound similar to an issue I had with that sensor. Did you confirm if the sensor readings are within the expected range, or totally out of whack?
