Matrix Intake Air Temperature Sensor Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Hyundai Matrix with a diesel engine exhibited a check engine light, reduced engine power, and rough idling, with a diagnostic tool indicating a fault in the intake air temperature sensor. The issue was suspected to be the sensor itself, as wiring appeared intact and the error code specifically pointed to this sensor. After replacing the intake air temperature sensor, the check engine light turned off, engine power returned to normal, and the rough running issue was resolved.

Thanks for the quick response! Wiring appears intact, no obvious breaks or corrosion. The diagnostic tool specifically points to the intake air temperature sensor. Regarding the MAF sensor, is it possible that a faulty MAF sensor would also cause the intake air temperature sensor to malfunction? Or perhaps just lead to similar symptoms?

Well, a faulty MAF could contribute to similar symptoms because it affects the air/fuel mixture. But if your diagnostic tool is specifically calling out the intake air temperature sensor, and you've checked the wiring, it's probably the sensor itself. To be honest, I'd get it checked out by a professional. Messing with sensors can sometimes create more problems than they solve. It sounds like you know your way around a car, but sensor issues can be tricky.

Appreciate the input. I've had the intake air temperature sensor replaced at a workshop, it cost 155€. The check engine light is now off, engine power is back to normal, and the rough running issue has disappeared. All seems well, thanks again for your advice!

Hey there! Sounds like a pain. I had similar issues with my old Fiesta, though it was a petrol. Did you check the wiring to the sensor? Sometimes it's just a loose connection or corroded wire. Also, are you sure the error code is specifically for the intake air temperature sensor and not something related, like the MAF sensor? They can sometimes throw up similar codes.
