Matrix Keyless Access Dead
Summary of the thread
The keyless access issue in a 2003 Hyundai Matrix was caused by a low battery in the key fob, as indicated by a persistent warning and stored error. The problem was resolved by replacing the key fob's battery, which restored the keyless entry functionality. This suggests that a depleted battery in the key fob was the core issue, and replacing it is a straightforward solution.

I haven't replaced it yet. I wanted to check if there were other possible causes before swapping it out. Is it just a standard battery, or something specific to the key fob?

In my case (BMW), it was a standard CR2032 button cell battery. You can usually find them at any electronics store or even a pharmacy. That said, a visit to a workshop is advisable if replacing the battery doesn't solve the issue.

Thanks for the advice! I replaced the battery in the key fob, and that seems to have fixed the problem. Total cost: 37€ for the battery. The keyless entry works perfectly now.

I had a similar problem with my old BMW 3 Series. The 'key battery low' warning turned out to be exactly that - a dead battery in the electronic key. Keyless entry became intermittent and eventually stopped working altogether. Did you try replacing the battery yet?
