Matrix Keyless Entry Problem
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Toyota Matrix is experiencing issues with the keyless entry system, preventing the engine from starting without the key in the ignition. The problem is suspected to be related to a faulty cable or plug connected to the bumper antenna. A similar issue was resolved by replacing the antenna, which receives signals from the key fob. Visiting a workshop for diagnosis and replacement of the antenna is recommended, as it resolved the issue in a similar case.

Thanks. I don't have the error code right now, but was your issue also the bumper antenna? Trying to figure out if I should replace the antenna or if something else is wrong.

Yes, that sounds like what I had. The antenna gets the signal from the key fob, and if the diagnostic points there, it's likely the problem. It cost about 95€ to fix. A workshop should take a look to be sure.

Thanks for sharing. Knowing the antenna is likely the issue helps a lot. I'm going to a workshop. The antenna needed replacement and now it works perfectly!

I have a Matrix, and I know the radio is tied to the immobilizer and keyless entry. Your symptoms sound like an issue I had. What's the specific error code? Sounds like the system that talks to the key fob and antenna is failing, which messes with starting and keyless.
