Thanks for the quick reply! I've visually inspected the solenoid, but haven't done any electrical testing. When you had the problem, what exactly was the fault?

I recommend you go to a workshop. The fault was a non-functional solenoid. It is better you let an expert check the power supply.

Appreciate the advice. I'll get it to a workshop and have the solenoid and wiring checked out. Turns out the repair will be around 250€, so not too bad all things considered.

I had a similar issue with my Hyundai Matrix. VANOS, or Variable Valve Timing, adjusts the timing of the intake and/or exhaust valves. If it's stuck, it can impact fuel efficiency and trigger the engine light. Have you checked the VANOS solenoid?
