Maverick gear shift indicator display fault
Summary of the thread
A 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid with 192,354 km is experiencing a blank gear shift indicator display, inability to engage gears, slipping transmission, unclean shifts, and grinding noises. The issue may be caused by a faulty transmission range sensor or a defective control unit. Checking the shift linkage and related sensors is suggested, but ultimately, the control unit may need replacement, which was confirmed as the solution.

Thanks for the quick reply! The shift knob feels normal, not loose or sticky. Which sensors specifically should I be checking? And where are they located? I'm trying to avoid replacing the entire control unit if possible. I have read something about the digital display failing.

I'm not an expert, but I would start with the transmission range sensor. It sends data to the control unit. If that fails it would cause the symptoms you are describing. But be aware, the control unit is a common culprit. Given the error stored in the memory, it may be unavoidable. You may have to bring it to a shop.

Thanks for confirming, I appreciate the insight. Sounds like I'm heading to the workshop. The affected control unit was indeed defective and cost me about 1000€ to get it sorted.

I've had a similar problem with my Maverick. Is it throwing any other codes? Does the shift knob feel normal, or is it loose or sticky? I'd start by checking the simple things like the shift linkage and any related sensors before diving into the control unit itself. It could be a sensor issue causing the display fault and the shifting problems.
