Maverick Knock Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2004 Ford Maverick is experiencing a check engine light, reduced fuel economy, and rough idling, suspected to be caused by a faulty knock sensor. The initial inspection revealed a potentially dodgy cable or plug, but no obvious damage was found. Despite cleaning the connector and checking the wiring, internal wire damage remains a possibility. The suggested solution is to replace the knock sensor, with a recommendation to visit a workshop for a thorough check and replacement.

Yeah, I cleaned the connector and checked the wiring, but I didn't see anything obvious. Could the wire still be bad even if it looks okay?

Internal wire damage is possible, but harder to confirm without specialized tools. Since you've checked the basics, and given the symptoms, replacing the knock sensor might be necessary. At 95€, it's not too expensive, but I'd suggest going to a workshop.

Okay, I'll take it to a shop for a proper check and to replace the knock sensor. Thanks for the heads up about the wiring; that's good to know.

Sounds like you're on the right track. A faulty knock sensor can definitely cause those symptoms. Have you tried cleaning the connector and checking the wiring for any obvious breaks or corrosion?
