Maverick preheating lamp and smoking issue
Summary of the thread
A 2007 Ford Maverick diesel is experiencing issues with the preheating lamp not switching off, the check engine light being on, and smoking during acceleration. The suspected causes include a faulty glow control unit or a bad connection. After running a diagnostic, it was determined that a corroded connector was the issue, which was resolved by cleaning the contacts.

Yeah, ran a diagnostic. Pointed to the glow control unit being defective. You think it's worth just cleaning the contacts or should I look at replacing the whole unit?

If the diagnostic specifically mentioned the control unit, and you've checked the wiring, it might be internally fried. I'd say go to a workshop and get it double checked. In my case it was a defective plug.

Cheers. Ended up being a corroded connector like you said. Cleaned it up and all good now. Cost me 95€ for the diagnostic and contact cleaning. Appreciate the help!

I had something similar happen on my Maverick, though I didn't get the smoke. Check the glow plug wiring harness and the connector to the glow control module. Could be a corroded or loose connection causing the issue. Did you run a diagnostic test?
