Maverick Smoke on Acceleration

I'm having a weird issue with my 2021 Ford Maverick, gasoline engine. I've got 109844 km on it. The warning light in the speedometer keeps popping up, and when I accelerate, there's smoke coming out. A local shop said it might be the exhaust back pressure sensor. Has anyone else dealt with this? It's driving me nuts!

I had a similar problem with my Ford Maverick. What kind of smoke are we talking about? Is it black, blue, or white? And does it smell funny? It could be the sensor, but it's best to rule out other things. Have you noticed any change in your engine performance, like rough idling or decreased fuel economy?

The smoke is black, and yeah, it does smell kind of like fuel. Engine seems a little sluggish, too. What was the fix for your Maverick when you had this?

Black smoke and fuel smell definitely point towards a fuel mixture issue, which could be related to that sensor messing with the engine's readings. If it's indeed the exhaust back pressure sensor, it's best to get it replaced. It's a relatively inexpensive part, but if it's faulty it could cause some serious damage to the engine over time. Get it properly diagnosed and replaced, and you should be good to go.

Thanks a lot for the advice! It was the exhaust back pressure sensor, just like the shop thought. Cost me about 245€ to get it fixed, but at least the smoke is gone, and the engine's running smoothly again. Appreciate the help!
