Maverick Transmission Slipping
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Ford Maverick is experiencing transmission issues, with the check engine and transmission lights on, and symptoms of slipping, unclean shifting, and occasional grinding. The suspected cause is a defective torque converter lock-up clutch. It is advised to have the vehicle checked at a workshop promptly to prevent further damage, as similar issues have been linked to torque converter faults in other vehicles. The workshop confirmed the issue as a defective automatic transmission converter.

I have observed a slight surge at times, particularly at lower speeds. Could you elaborate on the details of the converter fault in your Scenic and how it manifested?

Yeah, the surge and the symptoms you described point to a torque converter issue. I wouldn't drive it too much like that. In my case, it progressively got worse. Best to get it checked at a workshop ASAP, could save you from more expensive damage later on.

The workshop confirmed a defective automatic transmission converter. The repair, including parts and labor, was 2120€.

Sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms in my old Renault Scenic. Check engine light, weird shifting, the whole shebang. Turned out to be a converter fault. Not saying it's the same thing, but did you notice any engine surge at steady speeds?
