Maxima ECU error reduced power

Hey, I'm having a weird issue with my 2022 Nissan Maxima, gasoline engine. Lately, the engine power feels really reduced, like it's struggling. The check engine light came on, and I scanned it, and it's showing an error related to the engine control unit. I've checked the usual suspects like air filter and spark plugs, but no luck. Any ideas?

I had a similar problem with my 2018 Audi A4. The symptoms sound familiar. Was there an error code stored in the error memory when you scanned it? It could be the main relay, which was causing the ECU to malfunction in my case. It's like a fuse box for the car's computer, if that makes sense.

Thanks for the quick reply! Yes, there was definitely an error code stored. It specifically mentioned the ECU. So, you think a faulty main relay could actually cause the ECU to throw an error and reduce engine power? Is it hard to check or replace the relay?

That's correct. In my Audi, a defective main relay caused the ECU to act erratically, resulting in reduced engine power and stored error codes. Regarding your question, I would suggest taking it to a workshop. They should be able to diagnose the issue properly, and if it is the relay, replace it.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I took it to a shop, and you were spot on! Turns out the main relay was indeed defective, causing the ECU to freak out. They replaced it, cost me about 120€, and now it's running like new again. Appreciate the help!
