Maxima fuel pump issue

My 2018 Nissan Maxima with a gasoline engine is giving me serious headaches. It's got 202599 km on it, and lately, it's been acting up like crazy. The engine refuses to start sometimes, and when it does, it stalls at idle. The check engine light is mocking me constantly, and the engine runs rough like it's gargling rocks. Plus, my fuel consumption has skyrocketed! I scanned it, and it throws a code related to the fuel pump. I even checked the fuel pump connector – seemed ok but who knows? Could a dodgy fuel pump cable really cause ALL this mess?

Summary of the thread

A 2018 Nissan Maxima with 202,599 km is experiencing starting issues, stalling at idle, a persistent check engine light, rough engine performance, and increased fuel consumption. A diagnostic scan indicates a fuel pump-related error code. The problem is likely due to a faulty connection to the fuel pump, which was confirmed and resolved at a workshop, alleviating concerns of a more significant issue.

I also own a Maxima and had similar issues. Rough idling, check engine light, and occasional stalling. Have you checked the fuel injectors? Sometimes they become clogged and contribute to this issue.

Interesting! Fuel injectors, huh? I hadn't considered that, I thought it was an easy one with the fuel pump code. But yeah, the symptoms sound right for it - rough running, poor mileage. How did you troubleshoot your injectors, and how did you fix it?

Okay, so I might have jumped the gun. Upon checking my service records, the issue did stem from the pump. If you're seeing fuel pump error codes and the cable looks fine, I would advise going to a workshop. While it could be something else, with those symptoms it's more likely fuel pump failure.

You were spot on! It WAS the fuel pump! Turns out a connection to it was faulty. The workshop bill came to 95€, which isn't too bad, phew! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction; I was fearing the worst and a much bigger expense!
