Thanks, I haven't tried the spare key yet. If the spare key does the same thing, what could that mean?

If both keys are acting up, it's probably not just the key batteries. It could be a receiver issue in the car, or some electrical problem. Electrical problems can be a pain. I'd probably take it to a workshop to get it diagnosed.

I replaced the battery in the key fob, and that fixed it. The repair cost 37€.

I have a Maxima too, and I ran into something similar. The key fob was finicky at first, then got worse until I had to use the key. Did you try the spare key? It could rule out a problem with the car's receiver.
