Maxima Low Brake Fluid Pedal Feedback

My 2009 Nissan Maxima, gasoline engine, is showing a consistently low brake fluid level. Mileage is 53664 km. I'm also getting strange feedback from the brake pedal. Reservoir is topped off, no visible leaks in the brake lines. Could worn pads really cause this?

Summary of the thread

A 2009 Nissan Maxima owner reported a consistently low brake fluid level and unusual brake pedal feedback, despite topping off the reservoir and finding no visible leaks. The issue was suspected to be caused by worn brake pads, which can lead to decreased brake fluid levels and spongy pedal feedback. After consulting with another Maxima owner who experienced similar symptoms, the problem was confirmed to be worn pads, and replacing them resolved the issue.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I've got a Maxima too, and I had something similar. Pads were definitely shot. But I'd also get the master cylinder checked, just in case. Any warning light on the dash?

No warning light. Master cylinder seems fine. How severe was the feedback from your pedal? And did you notice any change in braking distance?

Pedal felt spongy and braking distance definitely increased. Eventually, I had the mechanic take a look; ended up being worn pads alright and the decreased brake fluid level was a symptom, nothing more. Cost me around 480€ to get it sorted at the workshop.

Thanks for the input, I appreciate it. Took it in, you were spot on. Worn pads were the culprit. All sorted now.
