Maxima MAF sensor issue
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Maxima with high mileage is experiencing increased fuel consumption, stalling at idle, a check engine light, and smoke during acceleration. These symptoms suggest a potential issue with the mass air flow (MAF) sensor. It is recommended to have the MAF sensor checked and possibly replaced by a professional to resolve the problem. After replacement, the vehicle's performance improved, confirming the MAF sensor was the issue.

MAF sensor is my primary suspect, as I mentioned. I was wondering if this rings a bell for anyone else? What did you do to fix the issue? Is it worth cleaning it first or just swapping it out?

Yes, the symptoms you mentioned align with a faulty MAF sensor. Considering the stalling and smoke, I'd advise against just cleaning it. I'd suggest taking it to a workshop. They can confirm the diagnosis and replace the sensor, ensuring it's properly calibrated.

Appreciate the input. Took it to the shop, and you called it. MAF sensor was indeed the culprit. Replaced it, and she's running smooth again. Final repair cost: 365€.

I had similar symptoms, though mine were not that extreme. I own a Maxima as well. Have you checked the MAF sensor?
