Mazda 5 Warning Light Concern: Seeking Advice and Experiences

Hey guys, I drive a 2018 Mazda 5 with a gas engine and around 37,358 km on the odometer. Lately, a warning light has popped up on my speedometer (I reckon it might be something to do with a system readiness check not being completed). After a not-so-great past experience at the mechanic's, I'm a bit hesitant to head straight there. Anyone had a similar issue with their car's warning indicators? Would love to hear your stories and especially how your mechanic managed to tackle this. Cheers!

Summary of the thread

A 2018 Mazda 5 owner is experiencing a warning light on the speedometer, suspected to be due to an incomplete system readiness check. This issue might be related to a previous battery disconnection, requiring the car's ECU and systems to reset and recalibrate. A similar case with a 2015 Mazda 6 was resolved after driving under various conditions, but if the light persists, a mechanic visit is advised to rule out more serious issues.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey there! Bit of a coincidence, but I had a similar issue on my 2015 Mazda 6 just a few months back. Had a bit of a shambles with the engine warning light after I’d disconnected the battery for other maintenance stuff. It turned out to be due to the uncompleted system readiness check, just like you've guessed. The car needed its ECU and other on-board systems to reset and recalibrate after the battery change. Nothing too serious though, just a bit annoying. It's something that usually gets sorted out after you've driven the car under different conditions for a bit. But if it doesn’t clear up in a couple of days, you might want to take it to the mechanic to make sure it isn't pinpointing something more serious. Hope this gives you a bit of peace of mind. Safe driving!

Hey! Sounds like our Mazdas have a shared sense of humour, mine's playing similar games. Just curious, do you recall how much you ended up dishing out to get the issue sorted? And has anything else popped up since that could be related? Would be great to hear your experiences. Cheers!

Hey! Yeah, those Mazdas sure have a mind of their own, don't they? To answer your question, I spent 90 bob on the fix. It was related to the battery being disconnected, like I mentioned before. Don't sweat it though, ever since I took it to the mechanic, the system readiness check issue was resolved, no more silly lights flashing up on the dash! Nothing else has popped up that seems related, so I reckon it's fairly safe to say whatever was causing the warning light, the mechanic nipped it in the bud. Fingers crossed your Mazda's just pulling a fast one, but worth getting it checked out if it doesn't reset. Good luck!

Haha, got to love the cheeky antics of our Mazdas, right? Thanks for sharing your experience, it's quelled my nerves a fair bit. Your 90 bob spend doesn't seem too bad, considering it's resolved all issues. I'll probably give it a couple of days to see if my girl sorts herself out. If not, off to the mechanic we go. Cheers for the heads up and keep safe on the roads!
