Summary of the thread
A 2022 Mazda BT Series (Diesel) is experiencing issues such as emitting black smoke, power loss, involuntary engine shutoffs, and poor fuel efficiency. The initial suspicion is a faulty air mass sensor. However, other potential causes include damage to the cable harness or clogged fuel injectors, as suggested by others with similar experiences. Hey there, thanks a lot for the insight from your experience, didn't even think about the cable harness! To give some more specifics about my ride, it's a 2022 Mazda, BT Series, running on diesel. Last serviced when the odometer was around 285414 KM. Apart from oil and filters change, everything seemed pretty routine, no major repairs or parts replaced. Hoping it's something not too hefty on the wallet like in your case. Cheers!

Hey again! Your added info really helps. Given your last service was pretty routine and no major parts were replaced, it's quite possible that cable harness damage, like I had, might not be the issue. But never rule anything out until it's checked, right? I do remember my complaining about similar issues on his BT series, and it turned out to be the fuel injectors that were clogged. He had high mileage on his Mazda too, so it might be worth giving that a look as well. Injector cleaner helped temporarily, but he ended up getting them replaced. Not exactly pocket-change, but less than a new engine, right? But again, I'm not trying to diagnose your beast from a distance, just offering a bit of friendly advice. It’s always a smart move to get a professional opinion before spending major dough, a mechanic might spot something we've missed. Good luck - I hope you resolve it without parting with too much of your hard-earned cash! Let us know how it goes.

Ah, the fuel injectors could definitely be another possible culprit given how much I've been racking up the miles. This has definitely given me something to consider outside my own suspicions about the air mass sensor. I'm clearly no expert, so your insights are incredibly valuable. You're right, though, I'm going to get it looked at by a professional mechanic who can thoroughly inspect it before I pull the wallet trigger. Appreciate your advice it's absolutely helpful. I'll keep you all posted about what the issue turns out to be. Fingers crossed it's not too costly! Cheers!

Hey there! My '20 Mazda CX-5 had a very similar issue not too long ago. Now, I'm no car guru, but I've worked on my share of vehicles - I'd say I've got some experience. Took it to my local workshop. Turns out, after a whole lot of head-scratching, it wasn't the sensor. It was actually damage to the cable harness that was causing the havoc. Stumped me for sure! Cost me around 95 Euro to fix, so it wasn't too hard on the wallet. Could you provide some more details about your vehicle? Year, model, recent repairs, that kind of stuff. Maybe I could give you a bit more tailored advice with that info. Good luck!
