Mazda MPV 2012 Gasoline: Common Steering and ABS/DSC System Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Mazda MPV owner is experiencing issues with the ABS/DSC system, loss of power steering, and a shaking steering wheel. The suspected cause is a faulty steering angle sensor, possibly due to incorrect coding. A similar case with a 2013 Mazda MX-5 was resolved by reprogramming the sensor, which fixed both the steering and ABS/DSC issues. The recommended solution is to consult a skilled mechanic for diagnostic tests and potential reprogramming of the sensor.

Hey, cheers for the solid advice. It's comforting to know that someone else went through something similar. Coincidentally, like your MX-5, my MPV may also be suffering from a steering angle sensor coding issue. I reckon I’ll take on your advice and find a decent mechanic to sort out mine too. Just wondering, can you recall how much it cost you to sort it all out? And anything other issues crop up since then? Just trying to get a handle on what to expect, y'know? Thanks again!

Hey! No worries! Glad to hear you found the advice helpful. You're in luck, I do remember about the cost. Fixing that incorrect coding of the steering angle sensor set me back about 195.00 €. Not exactly a drop in the ocean, but worth it to get the car running smooth again, y'know? Since seeing the mech and getting that sorted, I haven't had any more issues. That shaking steering and stubborn ABS/DSC system were all fixed up in one fell swoop. So, feels like money well spent. Hope it gives you a rough idea on what to expect. Good luck with your MPV, fingers crossed it'll work out just as good! Remember, not every car-related problem is a disaster in the making. Drive on, and all the best!

Hey, your words have been beyond helpful. Thanks for rememberin' the cost. 195.00 € ain't chump change, but as you said, for a smooth ride, it's a price I'm willing to pay. Good to hear that you haven't had any more issues since your fix. That's reassuring. I'm definitely heading to a mechanic ASAP. Fingers crossed, my experience will hopefully be just as successful as yours! I appreciate your words of wisdom - car troubles aren't always catastrophic. Thanks again and drive safe!

Hey there. The symptoms you're describing are pretty familiar. I drive a 2013 Mazda MX-5, and similar thing happened to me not too long ago. The issue was indeed with the coding of the steering angle sensor, like you suspected. It seems like it's not uncommon in some Mazda models. You know, most of us aren't mechanics and it's easy to feel worried with these technical issues. But don't sweat it. In my case, a skilled mechanic was able to handle this. They ran diagnostic tests, confirmed the wrong coding, and they reprogrammed the sensor. This fixed both, the shaky steering and the problematic ABS/DSC system. Long story short, it was definitely an issue that needed addressing, but it was handled effectively by a good mechanic. Technical glitch, I would say. So I'd recommend getting your car checked out soon. Good luck!
