Mazda Tribute 2010 Experiencing Engine Cutoff, ABS/DSC System Issues, and Weak Battery Performance

Hey guys, I've got a 2010 Mazda Tribute, gas engine with a good 283,333 KM on it. Lately, I've been having a few issues that got me a bit worried. The engine tends to cut off on its own, and the ABS/DSC system's been giving me a hard time. Also, the lights go dim or flicker sometimes and the battery doesn't sound too strong when starting the car. I'm guessing it's a generator problem, but after a lousy stint with my last mechanic, I could use some input. Has anyone else had these issues? How did your mechanic handle it? Would appreciate any advice on what I should do next. Cheers!

Summary of the thread

A 2010 Mazda Tribute is experiencing engine cutoff, ABS/DSC system issues, and weak battery performance. The primary suspected cause is a failing generator (alternator), which affects the vehicle's electrical system and battery charging. The recommended solution is to have the generator inspected and potentially replaced by a reliable mechanic to prevent further issues and ensure safe vehicle operation.

Hey there, I reckon you're right on-point with the generator problem guess. My car, a 2007 Mazda MX-5, was showing similar signs not long ago; weird flickering lights, weak starts, and the engine just unusually threw a tantrum and cuts out. I took it to my local garage, and they diagnosed it as a failing generator (alternator, technically). The thing is, the generator powers your vehicle's electrical system and also keeps the battery charged. If it's defective, your battery won't get the necessary voltage, leading to all sorts of odd behaviour, much like what you've described. However, it does qualify as a somewhat serious issue as it can lead to complete battery failure or even the car stalling while you're driving, which of course can get dangerous. Best bet would be to get your car to a trustworthy mechanic who knows his stuff and explain the symptoms to them. Yours sounds just like what happened to my good old MX-5. Hope you get it sorted swiftly!

Hey there, Thanks for chiming in and sharing your experience! That definitely sounds like what I'm going through with my Tribute. I'm relieved to hear that you managed to get the issue sorted out with your trusty MX-5. By the way, do you recall how much you shelled out for the alternator repair? And since you've had it fixed, have any new issues popped up or has everything been cruising nicely? Appreciate your help!

Hey! Yeah, I remember the cost of the repair all too well, left a significant dent in my wallet, I must say. Getting the generator fixed cost me a cool 960 Euro. But hey, there’s no price tag on peace of mind, right? Since that fix, I've got to say the good ol' MX-5 has been purring like a kitten. No more mysterious flickering lights or heart-stopping engine cuts mid-ride. From the sounds of it, I reckon getting that generator issue sorted will do wonders for your Tribute too. Hope that helps. Stay safe on the road!

Hey there, Ouch! 960 Euro does sound a bit steep, but indeed, peace of mind out there on the open road is priceless. Can't have the ol' girl giving up on me mid-ride, eh? And the fact that your MX-5 has been running smoothly ever since the repair gives me hope. Thanks for sharing your experience and the valuable advice. I'll get my Tribute to a mechanic straight away. Fingers crossed, all goes well! Safe travels! Cheers!
